The cost of decorating the nursery for your new baby or renovating your child’s bedroom can soon mount up and it’s very easy to get swept away with how cute things look with
out considering the amount of money you can afford.
Whether you are about to decorate a nursery for your first baby or making over the tired decor in your child’s bedroom you can save money while achieving a stunning result.
First consider how much you can afford to spend. If you start with the basics you can always add accessories later. Family and friends always buy gifts for a new baby so you could ask if they mind buying the laundry bag or cot tidy that goes with the scheme you’ve chosen. May be Grandma could buy the matching bin for your older child’s bedroom instead of an Easter Egg.
If the budget will stretch to curtains that match the cot bedding or the duvet set then this is a great way of starting a theme in the room and gives you something that you can base the rest of the decor around. Coordinating bedding and curtains in a room which has been painted with a complementary palette will have an instant impact.
The next big consideration is how long will it be before you want to have to decorate again. In the case of a baby’s nursery you may want to update the room once your little one reaches the toddler stage while the room that you have just decorated for your thirteen year old may have to last through out their teens.
Wallpaper is popular but takes a lot of time and effort to prepare the walls and put it up, not to mention the time it takes to scrape it off, so if you intend to make over the baby’s nursery once he or she becomes a toddler then it is probably best to avoid this.
There is a wide selection of wall stickers on the market today which offer a time saving, flexible alternative to wallpaper. The stickers are made from a material that attaches to a clean, smooth, painted surface and can be peeled off again with out leaving a mark. This means that if you choose the colour of the walls carefully you can use baby themed stickers which can be updated to a toddler theme and replaced with something suitable for older children later with out having to repaint the room if you don’t have the time or money.

Before you apply the wall stickers make sure that you leave a freshly painted wall for at least thirty days. If you are applying the stickers to a wall which was painted a while ago then make sure it is clean, especially if you are updating the room and have just taken down a previous pack of wall stickers.
Take care peeling the stickers off the backing sheet to make sure that you don’t accidentally tear them.
When you apply the sticker to the wall use a soft cloth to smooth it down.
